Maria Sams was born in Miami, Florida . Her parents recognizing her talents early, provided a nurturing environment and encouraged her to explore a variety of mediums, including painting, pottery, and textile design.
At the age of 15 Maria moved to Colombia to attend Taller Sinco, a school of designing art. At the age of 17 she returned to Florida and was exposed to the art of stained glass for the first time. Maria felt that working with glass, she had found the freedom to express herself.
Maria now lives with her family in Ravenna, Kentucky. Her studio, The Glass Garden, provides a unique work space surrounded by nature. Maria's love of nature and organic forms dominates her work, as she aspires to create pieces that reflect the beauty and harmony found in Kentucky.
Maria combines stained glass techniques from the past with new technologies to create designs for any space. Her restoration work and custom stained glass pieces can be found in homes and churches throughout the region.
